Our Approach
DESIGN
We begin our garden design process with a collaborative consultation visit to experience your property and chat about your goals, vision and budget for your garden. Following our initial visit, we will create a concept for your design goals based on our consultations, including a base sketch outlining the area you would like transform, a description of our design process and a budget for design services. After approval for the design work, we will build a tailored design package for you, incorporating your feedback, with site visits, concept illustrations, a planting plan and layout drawings.
For larger projects our designer will collaborate with you, your landscape architect and local contractors to ensure the vision and design for your garden is maintained through the construction phase.
SITE PREPARATION
We work within the local ecology of your property to build the foundation for a healthy, thriving garden. Each property has its own unique qualities, everything from shady, rocky woodlands to grassy, sandy meadows, and we build gardens that respond to these conditions. This informs decisions during the process of building, such as, the type of soil amendments that are used, drainage or irrigation requirements etc. Our gardens are constructed to be extensions of the landscape, built by our team of horticulturalists doing the work of shaping, amending and grading the soil to best prepare for the plantings.
PLANT PROCUREMENT
We work with quality growers and carefully select the best perennials, grasses, trees and shrubs for your garden, and will make sure they are delivered to your property with care. Choosing the right plants for a space is an essential part of what we do. Our artful gardens are created with carefully curated plants that will create ongoing visual impact through the shifting seasons. Ecologically sensitive, our plantings are full of life and wonder, and consideration is also given for the needs of local birds, pollinators, insects and butterflies. It all begins with healthy plants and expert placement.
PLANTING
We choose plants that will connect with the world around them. Finding just the right spot for these plants to thrive and to look and feel naturally situated is an essential part of our design and planting work. During the planting process, Matthew is on site to layout the plants with their unique characteristics in mind, while the gardening crew plants them with knowledge and care.
GARDEN STEWARDSHIP
Once the planting is finished, we recommend our garden care services and ongoing management of the plantings to support the garden as it becomes fully established. There is a connection, knowledge and caring that exists between gardeners and the gardens that they plant. We understand the vision for the space, know the layout of the planting, understand the unique environment and the specific needs of the plants. Our custom gardens are created with thoughtful plantings and are best served by a knowledgeable crew. Our team is available to nurture your garden and keep it looking its best.
