An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Lead Gardener to join our team to work on beautiful estate gardens. The Lead Gardener will play an important role in ensuring the gardens are planted and tended at a high standard while working closely with and leading a small crew of gardeners. The current available position is for 40 hrs+/week, April to November.

Requirements:

• 3-5 years experience of working in the landscape profession with garden specific knowledge and skills including excellent plant identification. Proven leadership experience is required.

• Ability to use power tools and hand tools properly.

• Good physical stamina to perform manual labour tasks, including lifting heavy objects, an eye for detail and willingness to work outdoors in various types of weather are required.

• Ability to safely drive a 1/2 ton truck, have and maintain a Valid G Driver’s License with clean abstract.

• Applicants should be flexible, energetic and cooperative in nature with a positive and friendly outlook.

• Reliable transportation to our yard in rural Caledon, ON

• Experience operating equipment, ie skid-steer, mini-excavator, would be an asset.

Duties:

• Lead the crew and participate in the timely execution of seasonal gardening duties and garden installations, keep the crew on task and complete the duties according to the schedule for each property.

• Safely drive the crew to and from job sites in the company vehicle.

• Perform administrative duties related to timesheets, materials and tools as well as daily gardening tasks independently and as the leader of a team.

Responsibilities:

• Daily time-tracking of the crew on site and tracking of tasks completed and materials used.

• Follow all health & safety regulations including wearing appropriate protective equipment.

• Load and unload tools and equipment from the truck.

• Keep working areas clean and maintain tools and equipment.

• Appropriate use and care for tools & equipment

The Experienced Gardener will play an important role in ensuring the gardens are planted and tended at a high standard while working closely with and assisting our Lead Gardener.  The current available position is for 40hrs+/week, April to late November.

• 2-5 years experience of working in the landscape profession with garden specific knowledge and skills. Horticultural qualification and/or equivalent experience as a gardener with excellent plant identification skills.

Duties:

• Installation of new gardens, spreading soil and mulch, planting grasses, perennials, shrubs and trees; and performing other duties to assist in the construction of landscaped areas. Complete detailed and custom garden stewardship duties including: weeding gardens, pruning, trimming, edging, tidying the garden and patios.

Responsibilities:

• Work under the supervision of our Lead Gardener, following instructions and daily schedules.

• Follow all health & safety regulations including wearing appropriate protective equipment.

• Load and unload tools and equipment from the truck.

• Appropriate use and care for tools & equipment

• As an assistant to the Lead Gardener, organize and keep track of the tools required for the job and at times assist with timesheet management and tracking schedules, properties visited, tasks completed and materials used. Occasionally, if the Lead Gardener requires time off, drive a dedicated work truck to specific properties and supervise and perform regular gardening duties.
